MetMin rebukes the food dessert and turns asphalt into food for steal! Every year, MetMin palnts its Gardens-to-Go and Bootleg Gardens on Good Friday. This annual event provides fresh vegetables to those who visit MetMin, as well as to our nearby neighbors.
The Gardens-to-Go are portable gardens in 5-gallon buckets. These Gardens-to-Go house tomatoes and sweet peppers, and are given to MetMin’s elderly clients so that they will have fresh food at their fingertips. They get to take these buckets home, and have their own little garden with a few vegetables.
Why plant on Good Friday? The act of garden planting on Good Friday is tied to more than the Farmer's Almanac and good luck, it's spiritual.
"For us as believers it's a symbolic reminder of Resurrection and new beginnings. As the hymn goes, ‘We plow the fields and scatter the good seed on the land’."
